Abstract
Water is very visible in its various forms in different places, including the city of Amiens and its surroundings. As a cultural and natural heritage, water, regardless of its appearance (river, waterway, stream), is sometimes directly visible, but can also become invisible over time. Sometimes watercourses have changed their course, sometimes canal projects have emerged. While some projects were actually realized, others remained unfinished. And finally, we often no longer have precise and reliable information about the historical course of the waterways or about linguistic and cultural traces that would make it possible to reconstruct their development. This conference aims to visualize the different layers of the creation and transformation of a heritage that is of great importance to the Hauts de France region.

On the one hand, the aim is to scrutinize an invisible or barely visible river or water heritage and, on the other, to highlight this heritage, which has so far received too little attention. Both approaches relating to the Hauts-de-France region and contributions from a comparative perspective, taking into account the situation in France, Europe and a global context, are welcome. The colloquium will provide an opportunity to address issues relating to the evolution of an element of material heritage, its rededication and its adaptation to new uses over time.

The presentations can address the following water-related questions, which are intended as suggestions without claiming to be exhaustive:
- How has cultural heritage been reinvented or (re)found?
- What can be said about the reuse of cultural heritage?
- Can we identify rewritings from past centuries to the present day?
- Can we speak of a (re)construction of tradition through cultural heritage?

Thus, this colloquium aims not only to improve our knowledge of the use of water in the past and the linguistic-cultural challenges associated with the naming of watercourses, their geographical changes, their changing allocations and their valorization or devaluation, but also to enable the use or more effective exploitation of this valuable resource in the future. To do this, we need to be able to identify and understand the old waterways, their utilization and the choice of hydronyms, as well as the reasons for their disappearance. An exhibition on the topic will be organized parallel to the colloquium. At the end, an interim balance sheet will be drawn up to determine the desiderata for a possible follow-up conference in 2025.

L'eau se manifeste très clairement sous ses différentes formes dans la ville d'Amiens et l'actuelle région des Hauts-de-France. En tant que patrimoine culturel et naturel, l'eau, quelle que soit sa qualification – (fleuve, voie navigable, rivière) – est parfois directement visible, mais elle peut aussi devenir invisible avec le temps. Tantôt les cours d'eau ont changé de parcours, tantôt des projets de canaux ont vu le jour. Alors que certains projets ont été effectivement réalisés, d’autres ont été laissés inachevés. Enfin, souvent, nous ne disposons plus d’informations précises et fiables sur le tracé historique des voies d'eau, ni de traces linguistico-culturelles permettant de reconstituer leur évolution. Ce projet, divisé en deux colloques, vise à rendre visibles les différentes strates de formation et de transformation d’un patrimoine de grande importance pour la région.

Il s'agit, d’une part, de s’interroger sur ce patrimoine fluvial ou hydraulique invisible ou peu visible et, d’autre part, de mettre en valeur ce patrimoine jusqu'alors peu valorisé dans le cadre de ce colloque. Tant des approches portant sur les Hauts-de-France comme des interventions d’un angle comparatif prenant en compte la situation en France, en Europe ou dans un contexte global sont les bienvenus. Ce colloque sera l’occasion d’aborder les questions de l’évolution d’un élément du patrimoine matériel, de sa réaffectation et de son adaptation à de nouveaux usages au cours du temps. C'est en travaillant sur les différentes strates du passé que ces relations peuvent être mises en évidence.

Les communications pourront porter, de manière non exhaustive, sur les questions suivantes liées à l'eau:
- Comment le patrimoine a-t-il été réinventé ou (re)trouvé ?
- Que peut-on dire sur la réutilisation du patrimoine ?
- Peut-on évoquer une réécriture des descriptions des derniers siècles jusqu’à nos jours ?
- Peut-on parler d'une (re)construction de la tradition par le patrimoine culturel ?

Ainsi ce colloque devra permettre d’améliorer nos connaissances non seulement sur l'utilisation de l'eau dans le passé et les enjeux linguistico-culturels liés à la dénomination des cours d’eau, à leurs changements géographiques, à leurs attributions changeantes et à leur valorisation ou dévalorisation, mais aussi l’utilisation ou bien la mise en valeur plus efficace de cette ressource précieuse à l'avenir. Pour cela, il faut pouvoir identifier et comprendre les anciennes voies d'eau, connaître leur utilisation et les choix des hydronymes ainsi que les raisons de leur disparition, et coopérer dans cette optique avec plusieurs partenaires en Picardie. Une exposition en cooperation avec Amiens métropole sur le thème sera associée à cette manifestation. L’établissement d’un bilan intermédiaire à l’issue du colloque permettra de définir les désiderata pour une suite éventuelle en 2025.
